Dad built a house for Yasmin from a large box. It has a puppy, a doll, crayons and books. It also has a door, window, and driveway. When Mom returns from work, she looks for Yasmin: Could she be behind the couch? Or underneath the sofa? This book enables toddlers and parents to play together using their imagination with lots of love.

Suggestions for Family Activities

Yasmin, the main character in this book, enjoys playing with her father, and creating a “grownups” world. Shared playtime allows toddlers to express their feelings, switch roles, have fun, laugh, and boost their self-confidence. Such play also allows parents to get closer to their toddlers’ world, and be children themselves for a while.

  • A piece of advice when reading as a family “Again!” If toddlers enjoy a story, we recommend reading it again. Repeated reading allows toddlers to re-experience exciting experiences. It is also their way of learning new words, and deepening their familiarity with situations and emotions – since the end of the book is already known.
  • Discussion What do you like about your home? Who lives there? Following this book, you could discuss your home with your children, describing what and who is there: Family members, household pets, favorite toys, and what else?
  • No more than a box “A house is merely a box to live in…” Please scan the QR code and sing along with the song written and composed by Datia Ben Dor.
  • We can build too You can also build a house out of a box. All you need is a large cardboard box, some free time, and a good mood. Now you can invite friends over to spend time with you in the house you have built. If you can only find a small box, don’t worry, you can turn it into a dollhouse.
  • Playing a game of ‘Hide and seek’ Where is the best place to hide? Just like Mom and Yasmin, you too can play hide and seek, with toddlers hiding and parents looking for them. Were you able to find them? Then how about starting another round and inviting the rest of your family to join you?
