Suggestions for Family Activities

Young children love splashing in puddles, dancing in the mud, and playing hide and seek. Sometimes they include their imaginary friends who are an integral part of their lives; and when they vanish, their hearts are filled with grief.

Mira Meir suggests that we, adults, join our children and see the world from their perspective. Listen to them, share their excitement and joy, and, whenever necessary, offer consolation and cheer them up, as the bible says:

Train up a child in the way they should go

[Proverbs 22:6]

Mira Meir (1932–2016) – Israeli children’s book authoress, poetess, translator and editor. Meir wrote many well-known and loved children’s books and poems, among them Oren’s Turtle [Hatzav Shel Oren], I Love Drawing [Ani Ohev Letzayer] and Who and What Was It? [Mi Ze Haya Uma Ze Haya?]. Her creative work

won her numerous awards.

פעילות בחיק המשפחה

  • A discussion on imagining together Children love to play “make believe”. They enjoy pretending that they are grown up: “Driving” a car, making mud “cakes”, or playing with an imaginary friend. You can play this game with your child using a prop, such as a doll, pot, or toy car, and ask: Where are we going? What are we cooking together? What is the doll saying?
  • Arts & Crafts – My reflection in the water Would you like to make a reflection? Like the one we see in a puddle? Scan the QR code and get inspired to make a simple piece of artwork.
  • A Game of “Almost the Same” Ron sees Shluli in the puddle, but, in fact, it is his own reflection in the water. You could also play a game of “mirror” in which two players face one another and take turns pulling a face, moving their head or leg, and having the other imitate them.
  • Jumping into puddles Are there any puddles outside yet? How about pulling on your boots, getting dressed warmly, and heading outside to jump into puddles? If that’s not possible, you can always make a “puddle” from rope or paper, and jump in and out as much as you like.
