Can a tiny bee help a king? King Solomon is certain it cannot, and laughs at the idea: bees are small, weak and inferior, how can one help “the wisest man who ever lived”?

Our Rabbis teach us that every creature in this world has a purpose, as well as strengths and skills. For each there will come a time when it is needed above all others; a moment in which it alone will know what to do and how to help. All of us, great and small, can make a contribution using our strengths and skills. Even the little bee in the story was able to help the big, wise king. It made the Queen of Sheba understand King Solomon’s true greatness, and inspired King Solomon to write another pearl of wisdom in the Book of Proverbs.

You may enjoy looking at the illustrations together. The bee appears on every page (sometimes it is hidden). You could try to follow it, and tell the story from her perspective. Can you identify the various gifts that the Queen of Sheba brings King Solomon? What kinds of gifts can one bring a king? Does he need them?
You may want to look for the illustration in which King Solomon lets the bee go. Perhaps you could ask your child: Why is he laughing? Does he truly believe a small bee could ever help him?
You could pretend to be bees yourselves. Let your child be the bee, and pretend to be its fellow bee. Fly together and buzz to one another – your child will tell you all about the bee’s encounter with the king, and you can react to the story.
“Wise is he who learns from all men”: you may want to ask your child what makes one wise, what wisdom is, and what King Solomon learned from the little bee. Perhaps you could tell your child something they did not know, and ask them to enlighten you with their knowledge!
Perhaps you could discuss the skills and contributions made by each member of your family. Together, try to remember times when your child was particularly helpful. Even the youngest members have their “hour”, in which they help and contribute to the greater good.
The Queen of Sheba came to Jerusalem to ask King Solomon riddles and test his wisdom. Do you know any riddles? You can put them to your child, or invent some new ones together.
This story is based on a tale about King Solomon, “the wisest man who ever lived”. Do you know any other stories about King Solomon? Perhaps you could share them with your child.

Еврейские мудрецы учат нас, что у каждого существа в этом мире есть своя роль, каждый обладает уникальными знаниями и силой. Наверняка настанет тот час, когда именно ты понадобишься другим, и только ты один будешь знать, как повести себя, чем помочь окружающим. Все мы, дети и взрослые, способны внести свой вклад и принести пользу, так же как маленькая пчелка, героиня нашей истории, которая смогла помочь всесильному мудрейшему царю. Благодаря пчеле царица Савская осознает важность и силу царя Соломона, а царь – становится еще мудрее и делится своей мудростью с нами в книге «Притчи царя Соломона».

Читаем и играем дома

Пересмотрите вместе иллюстрации к книге. Пчела изображена на каждой из них (иногда она прячется). Проследите за нашей героиней, попытайтесь пересказать сюжет книги от ее лица. Нашли ли вы на иллюстрациях подарки, которые преподносит царица Савская царю Соломону? Какие подарки можно подарить царю? Нужны ли они ему?
Поищите иллюстрацию, на которой царь Соломон освобождает пчелу. Задайте детям вопросы: Почему царь смеется? На самом ли деле он верит, что маленькая пчелка способна ему помочь?
Поиграйте и вы в пчелок. Предложите детям исполнить главную роль пчелы, вы можете быть ее подругами. Полетайте вместе по комнате, пожужжите, переговариваясь друг с другом о том, как пчелка описывает свою встречу с царем, поделитесь своими впечатлениями о прочитанном.
«Кто мудр? Тот, кто учится у каждого человека». Спросите детей, кого они считают умным человеком, как они определяют, что такое ум, чему научился царь Соломон у пчелы. Расскажите детям что-либо новое, о чем они не знали раньше, попросите и вы, чтобы малыши поделились с вами интересными новыми фактами.
Побеседуйте с детьми об умениях и вкладе каждого из членов семьи в общее дело. Повспоминайте вместе, в каких ситуациях малышам удавалось быть особенно полезными. Ведь и у самых маленьких есть свой звездный час, когда они оказывают неоценимую помощь окружающим.
Царица Савская прибывает в Иерусалим, чтобы испытать царя Соломона, задавая ему сложные вопросы и загадки. А вы знаете какие-нибудь интересные задачки? Задайте их детям. Можно попробовать придумать новые загадки вместе.
